Spain

[ overview ]

Spain is the kind of place that pulls you into its rhythm before you even realize it and suddenly, you’re living differently. Evenings don’t begin until the sun starts to dip, and dinner isn’t rushed at 6pm. It unfolds slowly, often starting around 9 or 10, stretching late into the night with wine, conversation, and that unmistakable hum of life all around you . The tapas culture alone is an experience—small plates meant to be shared, passed around, and enjoyed over laughter as you move from one lively bar to the next, turning dinner into something social, fluid, and unforgettable . It’s not just food—it’s connection, energy, and indulgence in the moment.

Barcelona brings this to life with a cool, artsy, effortlessly worldly vibe. It’s creative and colorful, where buzzing markets, tucked-away wine bars, and vibrant streets create this perfect blend of edge and ease. The entire city feels like it’s designed for wandering—popping into a tapas spot, lingering over a glass of wine, then stumbling upon something beautiful you never planned to see. I loved getting lost in the vintage shops there, each one feeling like a hidden gem, adding to that layered, lived-in charm. And then there’s Madrid—Barcelona’s sophisticated sister. It’s grand, elegant, and electric in a completely different way, where royal architecture meets a buzzing nightlife that doesn’t even think about slowing down. I’ll never forget being there on New Year’s Eve—the entire city alive, humming with energy—and sitting down to one of the best coursed meals I’ve ever had, surrounded by that kind of magic you can’t replicate.

And the truth is, that’s just the beginning. Head north and you’ll find the Basque Country, where pintxos—Spain’s elevated take on tapas—turn every bite into art, drawing food lovers from all over the world . Travel south and the landscape softens into golden coastlines, sun-drenched villages, and that slower, romantic pace that makes you want to stay just a little longer. Spain is layered, vibrant, and endlessly surprising—it’s not just one trip, it’s a feeling you keep chasing in different forms, over and over again.

Sample Itinerary

Day One

Arrive in Barcelona in the morning and keep things intentionally light.

Transfer to your boutique hotel, settle in, and head out for a slow wander through the Gothic Quarter. Narrow streets, hidden squares, little shops—you don’t need a plan here.

Stop for coffee and something small, then maybe make your way toward the beach for fresh air and a reset.

Dinner: relaxed tapas and wine. Early night if needed.

Day Two

Today is about soaking in Barcelona’s creative energy.

Start with a visit to Sagrada Familia—go early if you can, when it feels a bit quieter.

Then wander through El Born, popping into boutiques, vintage shops, and wine bars. This is your “get a little lost” day.

Long lunch, no rush. Maybe a glass (or two) of wine.

Evening: tapas hopping—one of the best ways to experience the city.

Day Three

A flexible day to follow your mood.

Options or do them all:

  • Visit Park Güell for views over the city

  • Spend time vintage shopping (Barcelona does this so well)

  • Slow café morning + journaling

  • Beach time or a rooftop afternoon

This is where Barcelona really settles in—you’re not sightseeing, you’re living it.

Final dinner in Barcelona: something a little special.

Day Four

Morning high-speed train to Madrid (about 2.5–3 hours, smooth and easy).

Check into your boutique hotel and take the afternoon to settle in.

Madrid feels different right away—more polished, more grand, but still incredibly alive.

Evening: rooftop drink + dinner. Let the city introduce itself.

Day Five

This is your Madrid immersion day.

Start with a relaxed morning—coffee, pastry, people watching.

Then explore: the Royal Palace, a museum, or simply wandering the neighborhoods. Madrid shines when you don’t over-plan it.

Afternoon: long lunch that turns into wine.

Night: Madrid comes alive late. Lean into it—this is a city that thrives after dark.

Day Six

Your final full day, fully flexible.

Options or do them all:

  • Stroll through Retiro Park for a slower, peaceful moment

  • Shopping in smaller local boutiques

  • A food or wine experience

End with a memorable, coursed dinner—this is your “celebration” night.

Day Seven

Slow morning.

One last coffee, one last walk, one last moment to take it all in.

Head to the airport for a mid/late-day flight—unrushed, full, and already dreaming about coming back.
